What is woodturning
For some of our products, we rely on the know-how of a wood turner. But what is woodturning exactly?
It is a thousand-years old technique dating to around 1300 BC in Ancient Egypt used to cut symmetrical shapes. Today the techniques and tools have evolved but the principles remain the same, making it a link to our path.
Even though nowadays there are numerically controlled machines, we chose to rely on the hand turned option. First of all because the craftsman can detect hidden defects in the wood and work it accordingly. Secondly because the design imagined by Patrick de Glo de Besses is not reproductible by a machine because of the concave feature of the bowl, and the oversized diameter of the extra-large serving tray.
