Frédéric Richard

Frédéric Richard, Belgian designer and cabinetmaker
Having studied visual arts, cabinetmaking and ornamentation styles from the 18th century, Frédéric Richard has taken the opposite view of a classical approach. He shares his time between a design studio and a workshop where he crafts pieces of furniture and objects by himself. A true craftsman in direct contact with material, he is always pushing the limits thanks to his perfect knowledge of ancient skills.
Drawing is an important step in his creative process; he uses various techniques, endlessly molding shapes in search of perfect balance. Far from being extravagant, his projects aspire towards a deliberate simplicity, giving them a surprisingly poetic and timeless character.

The inspiration for the Albatross bookshelf

Frédéric has gradually extracted elements of his drawings to keep only what to him, constitutes the soul of this piece. You will notice a pursuit of lightness, a result always stemming from a process more elaborate and intense than one might think.
